Abstract
Objective :
The aim of this study was to evaluate the epidemiological profile of bacterial strains isolated in urine in the biology laboratory of the Tahoua Regional Hospital Center in Niger and their resistance to antibiotics.
Method :
In fact, this was a prospective, cross-sectional study with a descriptive aim over a period of 6 months relating to cytobacteriological examinations of urine (ECBU) carried out in the bacteriology laboratory of the Tahoua regional hospital center. Bacteriological analyzes and antibiogram were carried out according to standard EUCAST 2022 methods. RESULTS: A total of 189 ECBUs were treated. Among these samples, 50.27% (n=95) were positive (including 54 BMR or 56.84%): 50.53% (n=48) enterobacteria 10.53% (n=10) BGN no fermentative and 38.94% (n=37) Gram-positive cocci. Among the enterobacteria isolated, Escherichia coli (n=26) with 54.16% followed by Klebsiella pneumoniae (n=11) with 22.91%. However, in Gram-positive cocci, CNS were present at 75.67% (n=28) followed by Staphylococcus aureus 21.62% (n=8). The resistance phenotypes found in Gram Negative Bacilli were respectively the ESBL (n=6), Carba-R (n=10), KTG (n=4) and Quinolones (n=8) phenotypes. Those found in Gram-Positive Cocci are resistance to methicillin (n=22), resistance to Gentamycin (n=18), resistance to Ciprofloxacin (n=23), resistance to Tetracycline (n=12) and resistance to Vancomycin n=6.
Conclusion :
Urinary tract infections are common in Tahoua, and enterobacteria are the most frequently isolated bacterial strains. The majority of these bacteria were resistant to antibiotics. Measures must be taken to ensure prevention.
