Abstract

Introduction :
Iatrogenic fistulas have become a public health problem in developing countries. The objective of this study was to determine the circumstances in which they occurred, as well as their anatomical and therapeutic characteristics.

Method :
We conducted a multicenter descriptive retrospective study over a period from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2021. women with urogenital fistula following surgery were included in this study: The data was processed by Excel and Epi Info software.

Results :
During this study period, 1398 cases of female genital fistulas were recorded, including 60 cases of iatrogenic fistulas, i.e. a frequency of 4.29%. The mean age of the patients was 33.54 years with extremes ranging from 19 to 62 years. Grand multiparous were the most represented with 24 cases or 40.00%. In 76.67% of the cases, iatrogenic fistulas developed after surgery for obstetric complications, 43.33% of which were caesarean sections. The dominant anatomical types were ureterovaginal fistulas (43.33%), followed by vesicocervicovaginal fistulas (25%). Ureteric reimplantation was performed in 50% of cases, followed by fistulorrhaphy (48.21%). The treatment success rate was 94.64% of closed and dry fistulas.

Conclusion :
The circumstances in which iatrogenic fistulas occur are dominated by caesarean section with a higher proportion at the CNRFO. It is therefore important to reframe the training of practitioners in this field.
