Abstract

Introduction :
Uro CT is an important morphological examination in the diagnosis of urological disorders. The aim was to determine the indications and results of uro-CT in the management of urinary disorders at Zinder National Hospital.

Materials and methods :
this was a cross-sectional study with descriptive retrospective collection over a period of 3 years 3 months, (July 2013 to October 2016), carried out in the medical imaging department of Zinder National Hospital. Uroscanner reports containing the following information were included: sex, age, examination date, result and conclusion. Incompletely filled-in reports or other non-uroscanner reports were excluded.

Results :
During the study period, a total of 3,384 CT scan reports were received, including 310 Uro CT reports (9.16%). The mean age of our patients was 35± 12.25 years (extremes: 9 months -75 years). Men made up 64% (n=197) and women 36% (n=113), i.e. a M/F sex ratio of 1.74. The indication for Uro CT was given by urologists and general practitioners in 41.94% (n=130) and 30.65% (n=95) of cases. Clinically, severe renal colic, lumbar pain and the presence of a mass were the indications in 27.42% (n=85), 20% (n=62) and 15.81% (n=49) respectively. Abdominal ultrasonography was the request for the uro-scanner in 63.55% (n=197). The various urological pathologies diagnosed were lithiasis, renal and/or bladder tumors, cysts and malformations in 64.17% (n=154), 15.83% (n=38), 10.83% (n=26) and 5.42% (13) respectively. Renal ectopy and pyeloureteral junction syndrome were the main malformations.

Conclusion :
Uro CT provided an accurate assessment of the lesions in all cases. Renal colic, lumbar mass. Lithiasis, tumours and malformations are the main affections of the urinary tree. The limitation of Uroscanner is its cost, in a context where many people are indigent.
