Abstract

Introduction :
Subtalar dislocation is a rare ankle injury characterized by simultaneous loss of the talocalcaneal and talonavicular joint relationships while the tibiotalar joint remains intact. It accounts for approximately 1 to 2% of traumatic foot dislocations, medial dislocations being the most common and generally occurring after indirect trauma to the foot in forced inversion.

Case report :
We report the case of a 46-year-old woman admitted for a closed pure medial subtalar dislocation following a road traffic accident. The diagnosis was based on clinical findings and confirmed by imaging. Management consisted of open reduction after failure of closed reduction, followed by plaster immobilization. The outcome was favorable, with good functional and radiographic results at one-year follow-up (EFAS score 22/24).

Conclusion :
An anatomical reduction, even when performed by open surgery after failure of closed reduction, may lead to a favorable outcome, with good functional results at one-year follow-up and no radiographic evidence of talar necrosis.
