Situs inversus totalis at Niamey General Reference Hospital : a case report.

Abstract

Introduction :
Situs inversus is a congenital condition in which major visceral organs are reversed or mirrored from their normal anatomical positions. It is a rare congenital malformation, it is often discovered incidentally. Medical imaging is often at the center of diagnosis. The aim of this study was to report a case of Situs inversus totalis diagnosed at Niamey General Reference Hospital, Niger.

Observation :
We report here the case of a 25-year-old male pateint residing in Niamey, without any particular symptoms that we received in the radiology and medical imaging department for a chest X-ray in the context of a medical file for scholarship. At the end of the examination, the diagnosis of situs inversus totalis was evoked. The thoraco abdomino-pelvic CT scan also confirms the diagnosis and without any other associated anomaly.

Conclusion :
Situs inversus is a rare congenital malformation, often discovered by chance during the course of symptoms linked to associated malformations, other diseases or routine medical imaging examinations.
