Abstract

Introduction :
Idiopathic scoliosis is a three-dimensional spinal deformity not uncommon in children and adolescents. The causes are often unknown, the diagnosis purely clinical. In some cases, they can be corrected by functional rehabilitation. The aim of this study was to report on the management of idiopathic scoliosis by functional rehabilitation. Case report This was a 13-year-old schoolgirl with mechanical dorsolumbago that had been evolving for a year. The walking perimeter was limited to 700 metres, with pain at rest. Physical examination revealed a dorsolumbar spine deformity with right convexity and asymmetry of the pelvic and scapular girdles. X-rays of the spine revealed a lateral curvature with right convexity and a Cobb angle of 20°. The diagnosis of idiopathic scoliosis was accepted. Physiotherapy and spinal flexibility exercises were indicated. This led to an improvement in symptomatology. Regular follow-up was instituted.

Conclusion :
Functional rehabilitation has always been considered an adjuvant treatment in the management of scoliosis. However, this clinical observation shows that functional rehabilitation alone can be the main treatment for some forms of scoliosis, with acceptable results.
