Abstract

Introduction :
Heart failure is the term of most heart diseases and responsible for high economic cost.

Objective :
to identify the profile of patients with heart failure and the most common causes Materials and methods: It was a prospective and descriptive study carried out from April 1rst 2021 to january 31, 2022. It concerned the hospitalized patients for heart failure in the cardiology department of the national hospital of Zinder Results: Among the 176 hospitalized patients during the study period, 146 were for heart failure i.e. a prevalence of 82,95%. A sex ratio of 0,66 was noted. The average age was 51,86 ± 19,32. The majority of our patients came from rural areas i.e. 52,1%(n=76). Hypertension was the most common cardiovascular risk factor observed and concerned 34,9%(n=51) of our patients. The global heart failure signs (association on the same patient of dyspnea, chest pain, ascites, lower limb edema and cough) were the most frequently observed and concerned 67,8%(n=99) of our patients. Electrocardiogramm found a cavitary dilation in 52,1%(n=76) and atrial fibrillation in 16,4%(n=24) of cases. Anemia and renal failure were the most frequent comorbidities observed with respectively 29,5%(n=43) and 12,3%(n=18). The hypertensive cardiomyopathy, ischemic cardiomyopathy and peripartum cardiomyopathy were the most frequent etiologies of heart failure observed with respectively 26,7%(n=39), 19,2%(n=28), and 15,1%(n=22). The outcome was favorable for 92,5%(n=135) of patients. The intra-hospital mortality rate was 4,8%(n=07). The average length of stay in hospital was 10±6,6 days.

Conclusion :
heart failure concerned modest origin patients and hypertensive.
