Abstract

Introduction :
Heart failure is a public health problem. The objective of this work was to determine the hospital prevalence of heart failure in Chad.

Materials and method :
this is a prospective study carried out over a period of 15 months, in the cardiology department of the national reference university hospital center.

Results :
the hospital prevalence of heart failure was 30.84%. The mean age was 52 ±3.4 years with extremes ranging from 18 to 87 years. The female gender was in the majority (50.7%) with a M/F sex ratio of 0.97. The most observed etiologies of heart failure were, in order of frequency, mainly heart disease, including hypertensive in 33.6% (n=72), valvular in 16.5% (n=33), and ischemic in 15. % (n=30). Other causes were myocarditis (11%), rhythmic heart disease (5.5%), peripartum cardiomyopathy (5%), pericarditis (5%).

Conclusion :
Heart failure remains a burden in Chad.
