Abstract

Introduction :
Abdominal wall endometriosis is a form of extragenital endometriosis. The objective of this study was to describe the epidemiological and pathological features of endometriosis of the abdominal wall in our laboratory.

Patients and methods :
This was a series of cases of abdominal wall endometriosis diagnosed in the Pathology Laboratory at the Niamey National Hospital between February 2020 and January 2022. Pathological reports with a histological conclusion of abdominal wall endometriosis were included. The variables were epidemiological and pathological.

Results :
A total of 7 patients were collected. The average age was 33 years (extremes: 26 years and 43 years). The umbilical location involved 51.1% (n=4) of cases and the parietal location 48.8% (n=3). The history of surgery was found in 51.1% (n=4) of cases. Histologically the aspects were comparable; it consisted of an abdominal wall lined by a squamous epithelium resting on a regular basal membrane in all cases. The dermis and hypodermis showed endometrial type glands surrounded by a more or less dense cytogenic chorion.

Conclusion :
A condition affecting young women, often with a history of surgery, abdominal wall endometriosis is a rare and little-known condition. Abdominal pain is a classic symptom and its diagnosis is confirmed by pathology.
