Abstract
Introduction :
Rape, a major public health problem, represents one of the worst forms of sexual violence, with extremely serious consequences for the health and social integration of the victim. The aim of this study was to report on our experience in the management of sexual violence against minors at Niamey National Hospital.
Observations :
Two 6-year-old female patients admitted to the Hôpital National de Niamey for vulvo-perineal trauma following a violent incident were diagnosed with extensive vulvo-perineal lesions with recto-vaginal fistula. Surgery was indicated and performed, and the postoperative course was straightforward.
Conclusion :
Rape of minors of both sexes is still a reality and a taboo in most developing countries. This sex taboo needs to be lifted in order to encourage rapid denunciation of this criminal act, and to enable appropriate treatment of patients.
