Abstract
Introduction :
Upper gastrointestinal bleeding (HDH) is a medical-surgical emergency, responsible for high morbidity and mortality. Their prognosis is improved by upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, which is the main means of diagnosis.
Objective :
to describe the endoscopic profile of HDH in Zinder hospitals.
Methods :
literature review of upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (EDH) reports performed for HDH in 2 digestive endoscopy centers in Zinder, from 1 January 2020 to 31 December 2022.
Results :
these were 74 reports for HDH out of 1331 EDH, or 5.55%. The mean age was 41.16±16.82 years (13 to 78 years), and a male predominance (sex ratio 1.64). The origin is rural in 56.76% (n = 42) and the socio-professional strata with modest incomes represent 78.37% (n = 58). HDHs were divided into 57 haematemesis (77.02%) and 17 melenas (22.98%). Associated symptoms were epigastralgia 10.81% (n=8), anemia 2.7% (n=2), endoscopic lesions were gastropathies 39.22% (n=53), ulcers 35.13% (n=26), esophageal varices 25.67% (n=19), hiatal hernias 16.21% (n=12), esophagitis 8.10% (n=6) and gastric tumor 1.35%. The EDH was normal in 2 cases or 2.70%. Biopsies were performed in 3 patients (4.05%) and histological findings were divided into 2 chronic Helicobacter pylori gastritis (2.70%) and gastric adenocarcinoma (1.35%).
Conclusion :
Upper gastrointestinal bleeding is a common indication for EDH. This examination makes it possible to find the causes of HDH dominated by gastropathies, ulcers and esophageal varices.
